Quotes That Capture the Magic of Motherhood
Updated: Jan 27, 2020

You guys, how is it almost the end of January? Seriously, what is happening? 2020 is already gearing up to be such a busy year for me as a photog & a mama. I'm so excited for all our plans & adventures! Whooo! This morning, I realized just how much we have to do as a family & then I came across a quote that really reminded me of just how precious this short time we as humans have with one another really is.. It made me stop & soak in all the love for a moment despite our busy lives.
“Making the decision to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” ― Elizabeth Stone.
So simple, so true! This one really resonated with me, so it got to thinking of quotes & verses that really capture the magic of motherhood & just thought I'd list some great ones. Let's review some of the most beautiful quotes together:
“Whether your pregnancy was meticulously planned, medically coaxed, or happened by surprise, one thing is certain – your life will never be the same.” - Catherine Jones
“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” -Osho
“Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, But still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, you didn’t grow under my heart but in it.” —Fleur Conkling Heyliger - Adoption
“That first pregnancy is a long sea journey to a country where you don’t know the language, where land is in sight for such a long time that after a while it’s just the horizon – and then one day birds wheel over that dark shape and it’s suddenly close, and all you can do is hope like hell that you’ve had the right shots.”
-Emily Perkins

“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.”
- Jodi Picoult
“Pregnancy is a process that invites you to surrender to the unseen force behind all life.” -Uknown
“I think that the best thing we can do for our children is to allow them to do things for themselves, allow them to be strong, allow them to experience life on their own terms, allow them to take the subway... let them be better people, let them believe more in themselves.” -C. JoyBell C.
“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.” -Jessica Lange
“Most mothers are instinctive philosophers.” —Harriet Beecher Stowe

“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dates all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.” -Agatha Christie
“Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation, where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom.” - Harriette Hartigan
“Adoption one child won’t change the world, but for that child, the world will change.” -Unknown
“Pregnancy a slow, difficult, and delightful apprenticeship in attentiveness, gentleness, forgetting oneself. The ability to succeed in this path without masochism and without annihilating one's affective, intellectual, and professional personality - such would seem to be the stakes to be won through guiltless maternity.” -Julia Kristeva
“The newly minted maternal heart, it completely melted into mush, the oxytocin I know now, had kicked in, and how. I would fight tigers barehanded, climb down cliffs, throw myself in the path of a speeding car, and even do calculus again if I needed to, for this child.” -Kiran Manral
“Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother.” -Lin Yutang
“A mother’s happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.” -Honore de Balzac

"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." -Abraham Lincoln
"Men are what their mothers made them." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb -Psalm 139:13
There's really no way to capture Motherhood in a single line or two, but I love that they're so many ways to describe it's magic. What an amazing journey I'm on as a mother, thank the Lord.
I'd love to hear any quotes you guys may have!
God Bless,
